Information about the campuses
Hamilton, located 3.5 hours from Melbourne, is the hub of a large agricultural region and the centre of the shire for business, commerce, education, health and cultural facilities. It also boasts of a number of attractive parks, gardens and recreation areas, including the 4 hectare Botanical Gardens featuring a significant collection of pine and oak trees. Lake Hamilton is located at the eastern end of town and is surrounded by 25 hectares of parkland and a walking/cycling track. Western District Health Service (WDHS) is a leading Sub-Regional referral centre providing surgical, medical, obstetric, rehabilitation, emergency, psychiatric, allied health and community health services to the south-west region of Victoria. A comprehensive range of acute, aged and primary health services is provided to a catchment population of around 37,000 of Hamilton and its adjoining areas. WDHS has a pharmacy department comprising of 10 staff, providing pharmacy services to a total of 91 acute beds across 4 campuses- Hamilton Campus, Penshurst and District Health Service, Coleraine and District Health Service and Merino Community Health Centre.
Intern program information
One intern position is available in 2025 (government-funded).
You will be working alongside experienced, passionate leadership peers who are true to our values of Integrity, Innovation, Collaboration, Accountability, Respect and Empathy. A major part of the role will be the provision of clinical services to inpatients as well as working with other pharmacists and support staff in providing comprehensive pharmaceutical services to inpatients, outpatients, residents and staff of WDHS.
Our pharmacists have experience mentoring and supervising interns, and the intern will be adequately supported. Clinical presentations are done weekly to expand intern knowledge, and interns are allowed adequate time during working hours to prepare for weekly presentations as well as for the Pharmacy Board examinations.
Interns will be supervised by different pharmacists during the course of their internship, with each offering different skills and clinical backgrounds. Interns are rotated to different clinical areas (medical, intensive care, surgical, oncology etc) to provide them with clinical experience in different areas. Due to our partnership with some health services in the region, you will have regular opportunities to network with interns from other hospitals in the region, with tutorials and presentations organised on a regular basis.
