Pharmacy Technicians and Assistants
AdPha is committed to advocating for the growth of technician and pharmacy assistant roles, as part of efforts to advance Australia’s pharmacy workforce. In 2017, technicians were welcomed as voting members of AdPha and they remain crucial partners in pharmacy care. In 2023, we established a pharmacy technician and assistants working group to help fast-track career development and recognition through ANZCAP and in 2024, members voted to add Technician Director position to the Board. We look forward to introducing Australia's first competency standards for Pharmacy Technicians, with consultation opening on Pharmacy Technicians and Assistants Day 2024.
We're offering 50% off Technician membership from 15 October 2024 until 31 October 2024 for all current, new and returning Technician members. Add the code TECHDAY24 and your discount will automattically apply! Join or renew today via your Dashboard.

Pharmacy Technicians and Assistants Day 2024
'Partners in Patient Care' | Tuesday 15 October
Pharmacy Technicians and Assistants are integral to Australia’s hospital pharmacy and broader health care workforce. While roles and responsibilities of technicians and assistants vary from hospital-to-hospital and state-to-state, the focus is the same: delivering precise technical services as an essential part of hospital pharmacy departments focused on patient care.

Drawing on your ideas and expertise, AdPha advocates for the expansion of Pharmacy Technician and Assistant roles and greater support for your services. Earlier this year, AdPha members voted to add a Pharmacy Technician position to the Board of Directors, helping give technicians and assistants an even stronger voice for the profession.
- Released in November 2019, the Standard of Practice for Pharmacy Technicians to support Clinical Pharmacy Services outlines how, with appropriate education, training and competency assessment, pharmacy technicians can undertake a range of ward-based administrative, supply, technical and cognitive activities. The Standard will be incorporated into the revision of the Standards of Practice for Clinical Pharmacy Services.
