In 2017 Skills IQ began the process of updating the Certificate III & Certificate IV in Hospital/Health Services Pharmacy Support qualifications for pharmacy technicians and assistants. A ‘Case for Change’ was submitted in 2018 with the detailed work necessary to update both qualifications beginning in 2019. This process culminated in October 2021 when the Australian Industry Skills Committee (AISC) formally endorsed the proposed qualification changes.
This presentation will provide an overview of this five-year project offering a direct comparison between the current and new qualifications, the reasons for the changes and how these changes aim to future-proof the qualifications, with respect to the continued expansion and development of technician and assistant roles across Australia.
