Through practical examples and real clinical scenarios, this presentation explores how small shifts in communication can significantly impact patient understanding, trust, and outcomes. It focuses on strategies that are immediately applicable on the ward, in dispensary settings, and during interdisciplinary collaboration.

This session aims to provide clinicians with practical tools to approach conversations more intentionally; supporting safer care, stronger therapeutic relationships, and more confident communication in day-to-day practice.

Margaretta Lin, Practice Improvement, Staff Development and Education Lead Pharmacist at Bankstown Hospital

Margaretta is passionate about teaching healthcare professionals the communication skills needed to provide truly holistic, patient-centred care, drawing on her experience across community and hospital pharmacy, university teaching and OSCE examination. She believes effective communication is not simply a “soft skill”, but a fundamental component of safe clinical practice- because even the most accurate, evidence-based advice cannot achieve its intended outcome if patients do not understand, trust or feel empowered to follow it. Through empathy, meaningful connection and clear communication, she aims to help healthcare professionals build trust, prevent harm and empower patients to make informed decisions about their health.
