Improving care for older Australians as AdPha's Specialty Practice expands

Advanced Pharmacy Australia (AdPha) has partnered with Choice Chemist / Choice Aged Care and launched a new Credentialed Pharmacists Specialty Practice Group to further support pharmacists working in aged care.

Advanced Pharmacy Australia (AdPha) is expanding its support for the aged care sector through a new partnership with leading Aged Care Onsite Pharmacist (ACOP) provider Choice Chemist, while also launching a dedicated Credentialed Pharmacists Specialty Practice Group (SPG).

The partnership will see more than 100 Choice pharmacists add their experience and expertise to the growing Specialty Practice program, with AdPha announcing a further three new SPGs today: Precision Medicine, Gastroenterology and Anticoagulation Stewardship.

AdPha Chief Executive Kristin Michaels says the new partnership comes at a critical time in aged care, amid a rapidly-evolving pharmacy landscape.

‘Safe and appropriate medicine use in aged care was a key finding of the Aged Care Royal Commission — and with new funding to embed pharmacists onsite, we must ensure they are equipped to deliver the best possible care for older Australians.

‘AdPha is proud to offer unique structures to provide that support, and we’re pleased to partner with Australia’s leading ACOP provider – Choice Aged Care – to realise the new Credentialed Pharmacists SPG, also bolstering our existing Transitions of Care and Primary Care SPG and Geriatric Medicine SPG with new members in the process.

‘Specialisation is crucial to the ongoing expansion of pharmacy practice.

‘AdPha’s Specialty Practice is Australia’s meeting place for practitioners working in a growing number of specialty settings, and today’s increase to 37 SPGs shows the vibrancy and diversity at this leading edge of pharmacy care.’

Choice Chemist’s Michael Bonner says the partnership will lift standards across the sector.

‘AdPha sets the national benchmark for clinical pharmacy. Through this agreement we’ll integrate its landmark standards into our Pharmacy Care Academy Australia training programs and future workforce initiatives.

‘Today’s agreement also strengthens our standing as an employer of choice, conferring access to AdPha’s full suite of member benefits, including access to ANZCAP recognition and AdPha Learning, strengthening professional development and opportunities for our rapidly growing team.’
