Resident Training Program - Community Pharmacy

What does a Resident Training Program involve?

AdPha requires accredited Resident Training Programs to offer a breadth of clinical and practice experiences to Resident candidates across the two-year program. Whilst the curriculum offered may be unique to each Banner Group, core components are focussed on the key services offered by community pharmacies with the flexibility to choose amongst various optional areas based on your individual community pharmacy. Preceptors who oversee Resident candidate practice are experienced in their focus area and will often have additional qualifications in clinical supervision and training.

How do I join a Resident Training Program in Community Pharmacy?

Your first step is to find out if your community pharmacy Banner Group is an approved and accredited organisation offering the Resident Training Program.  You will also need to check if your community pharmacy is an accredited pharmacy site part of the Banner Group’s Resident Training Program. Click on the link below to view accredited community pharmacy sites.

If your pharmacy isn’t listed there, speak to your owner or someone from the Banner Group to see if they are in the process of undergoing accreditation to deliver a Resident Training Program.

If you have secured a spot as a Resident Candidate in a community pharmacy, click here to register in the Resident Training Program with AdPha.

Registration provides you access to a suite of resources and tools through AdPha Communities and the Australian and New Zealand College of Advanced Pharmacy (ANZCAP). See Training Program resources and tools for more information.

Compulsory education components

There are two compulsory education components Resident candidates must complete while in the program:

  • In their first year, Resident candidates are required to attend the AdPha Extension Seminar (or Masterclass if deemed appropriate by the Resident Training Program Leader) in Clinical Medication Management, and
  • an AdPha seminar relevant to their CPD plan in their second year.

Other seminars/conferences (including Banner Group Seminars/Conferences) may replace the AdPha seminar in the second year of Resident Training Program only if:

  • The replacement seminars have as many hours of learning, and
  • The seminars are workshop-based or focused on interactive learning and,
  • The seminars are CPD-accredited.

Book a place at one of our seminars or find out more at AdPha Events.
