This two-day workshop led by the amazing University of North Carolina (UNC) Eshelman School of Pharmacy faculty, Associate Professor Stephen Eckel and Assistant Professor Michael Stepanovic is designed to equip pharmacy leaders with the essential skills to build, lead, and sustain high-performing teams in today’s complex healthcare environment. Participants will explore the critical role of leadership in driving practice advancement, learn how to create alignment through a clear and compelling vision, and develop practical tools to support data-informed decision-making. The workshop then transitions into applied people leadership, focusing on performance management, onboarding and coaching, and navigating real-world workforce challenges. Through a combination of interactive sessions, case-based discussions, and hands-on activities, participants will leave with actionable strategies they can immediately implement within their organisations.

Associate Professor Stephen Eckel, Associate Professor, Assocaite Dean - Global Engagement, University of North Carolina Eshelman School of Pharmacy

As a previous pharmacy administrator and an innovator and entrepreneur, Stephen Eckel has an understanding of the practice of pharmacy and been active in teaching others skills in administration and leadership. He is active in evaluating and developing new technologies for the marketplace.
Eckel has been very active in the North Carolina Association of Pharmacists, serving in the past as President. He is a past member of the Board of Directors of American Society of Health-System Pharmacists. Eckel spearheaded the development of UNC Pharmacy Grand Rounds with ASHP and launched ChemoGLO, LLC with Bill Zamboni, PharmD, PhD. He also founded Assure Medical Technologies Inc, which is developing the Precynge medical device and Aseptique. He is the previous editor of the health-system edition of Pharmacy Times and a passionate supporter of the role of the pharmacist and the use of technology in patient care. He is a Fellow of ASHP, APhA, ACCP, FIP, NCAP, and the National Academies of Practice in Pharmacy.
Assistant Professor Michael Stepanovic, Assistant Professor, University of North Carolina Eshelman School of Pharmacy, Division of Practice Advancement and Clinical Education

Dr. Michael Stepanovic, PharmD, MS, is an Assistant Professor at the UNC Eshelman School of Pharmacy in the Division of Practice Advancement and Clinical Education. He teaches in both the Doctor of Pharmacy (PharmD) and Master of Science in Pharmaceutical Sciences programs, specializing in Health-System Pharmacy Administration. His courses cover supply chain management, pharmaceutical management and the medication use process, leadership development, health system finance, the business of healthcare, and monitoring and evaluation.
Dr. Stepanovic’s research focuses on the medication use process, medication quality—particularly substandard and falsified (SF) medications—pharmacy administration and leadership, pharmacy practice standards, and expanding opportunities for pharmacy students to impact healthcare through the study of non-direct patient care (nonclinical) experiences and career pathways, as well as improving teaching and student learning.
