Ms Chin-Yen Yeo. Antimicrobial Stewardship Pharmacist, Concord Hospital
Chin-Yen is an experienced hospital pharmacist with a specialist focus in infectious diseases, antimicrobial stewardship (AMS), and global health. She currently leads the AMS service at Concord Repatriation General Hospital (Sydney LHD) and serves as a technical expert and mentor for AMS capacity-building across the Pacific region. With over a decade in clinical pharmacy and postgraduate training in infectious diseases control, she is also a Fellow of the AdPha and ANZCAP, and a committed educator, researcher, and advocate for equitable access to quality use of medicines in both local and global contexts.
Dr Tina Marinelli. Staff Specialist Infectious Disease, Royal Prince Alfred Hospital
Dr Tina Marinelli is an Infectious Diseases staff specialist with a subspeciality interest in infections in the immunocompromised host and transplant recipients at Royal Prince Alfred Hospital in Sydney and a Senior Clinical Lecturer at the University of Sydney. She completed her infectious diseases training in Adelaide and subsequently undertook a two-year clinical and research fellowship in transplant, hematology, and oncology infectious diseases at the University of Toronto/Toronto General Hospital, where she also served as the Chief Transplant Fellow. Following this, she completed an editorial fellowship with the American Journal of Transplantation.
In 2021, she was awarded a ‘Young Investigator Award’ from the American Society of Transplantation for her research on COVID-19 in solid organ transplant recipients, and she continues to dabble in clinical research. In her current role at RPA, she leads the immunocompromised infectious diseases service. She is a committee member of the Australasian Society for Infectious Diseases Immunocompromised Host Special Interest Group and is the co-chair of the Transplant Society of Australia and New Zealand infectious diseases group. She is involved in writing guidelines for various organisations, including TSANZ, the American Thoracic Society and the Therapeutic Guidelines.
Prof Jan-Willem Alffenaar. Chair Clinical Pharmacy, University of Sydney and Westmead Hospital
Prof Jan-Willem Alffenaar is a hospital pharmacist and clinical pharmacologist, and chair of clinical pharmacy at the University of Sydney Pharmacy School and Westmead Hospital. He is the theme lead ‘Antimicrobial resistance and novel therapies’ at the University of Sydney Infectious Diseases Institute and a member of the antimicrobial stewardship committee, the drug committee, chair of the scientific advisory committee and HREC at Westmead Hospital. He is an internationally recognised expert in therapeutic drug monitoring and dose optimisation of antimicrobial therapy. He is the current President of the International Association of Therapeutic Drug Monitoring and Clinical Toxicology. He is a member of the WHO’s Technical Advisory Group on TB drug dosing. Prof Alffenaar led systematic reviews for WHO on various antimicrobial drugs, informing the WHO TB treatment policy review meeting as well as the WHO Fungal Priority Pathogen List. His research is focused on personalised dosing in routine care using innovative sampling techniques and point-of-care saliva testing.
Dr Cindy Lau. Antimicrobial Stewardship Pharmacist, St Vincent’s Health Network Sydney
Dr Cindy is the Antimicrobial Stewardship Pharmacist at St Vincent’s Hospital, Sydney, and completed her PhD at the University of Sydney, investigating antimicrobial toxicity and therapeutic drug monitoring. Her interests include clinical implementation of antimicrobial TDM, infections in immunocompromised hosts and pestering clinicians to measure linezolid and cefepime trough concentrations.
A/Prof. Thomas Gottlieb. Head of Department of Infectious Disease, Senior Staff Specialist Microbiology and Infectious Disease, Concord Hospital
Dr Gottlieb is a specialist in Microbiology and Infectious Diseases. His interests include the diagnosis and management of clinical infectious diseases, education in infectious diseases, hospital infection control, laboratory antimicrobial resistance, as well as antimicrobial utilisation, especially focusing on appropriate usage and behavioural aspects of use.
Dr Gottlieb is a past president and honorary member of the Australasian Society for Infectious Diseases (ASID) and a past president of the Australian Society for Antimicrobials (ASA).
Dr Gottlieb is an executive member of the Australian Group on Antimicrobial Resistance (AGAR) and ASA. He has represented ASA on the Australian Strategic and Technical Advisory Group on Antimicrobial Resistance (ASTAG), responsible for the development and implementation of Australia’s National Antimicrobial Resistance (AMR) Strategy.
He has been chair of advisory committees supervising training in Infectious Diseases and Microbiology. Among writing groups, he has participated in the Australian Infection Control Guidelines, the national Therapeutic Guidelines for Antibiotic Use, and guidelines for Antimicrobial Stewardship in Australian Healthcare.
Dr Timothy Gray. Senior Staff Specialist Microbiology and Infectious Disease, Concord Hospital
Dr. Tim Gray is a senior specialist in Infectious Diseases and Microbiology at Concord Hospital, Sydney. He is also a Senior Lecturer at the University of Sydney. Dr. Gray enjoys general infectious disease and microbiology practice, with interests in antimicrobial stewardship and healthcare-associated infections. His daily interactions with his pharmacist colleagues are one of the great joys in his work.
Dr Katie Frith. Paediatric Immunologist and Allergist, Sydney Children’s Hospital Randwick
Dr Katie is a paediatric immunologist and allergist based at Sydney Children’s Hospital and The Children’s Clinic. She is co-chair of the National Allergy Council’s (NAC) shared care committee and a member of the NAC advisory committee. Katie is also an active member of ASCIA, the peak professional body for immunologists in Australia and New Zealand. She is a member of both the ASCIA anaphylaxis committee (past chair) and paediatric committee, and was chair of the 33rd ASCIA conference. Katie is also a conjoint lecturer in the Clinical School at UNSW.
This activity has been accredited for 5 hours of Group-2 CPD (or 10 CPD credits), suitable for inclusion in an individual pharmacist’s CPD plan.
