After becoming registered in 1991 Stephen worked for several years at Dunedin Hospital in New Zealand. Most of the time was spent providing clinical services to 50 medical beds as well acting as a clinical tutor two afternoons per week at the school of Pharmacy, University of Otago. In late 1997 he accepted a one year contract at the Royal Darwin Hospital which has now stretch to 25 + years of service. Since arriving he has been actively involved with the Critical Care Unit initially providing clinical services. He now is permanently based as a senior staff member within the unit and is responsible for NSQHS standard four, Smart Pump Data Sets, protocol development, financial medication expenditure and provides extensive nursing and medical staff education along with providing daily clinical services. He was an active member of the SHPA Critical Care Committee from its formation in 2004/05 till 2015 and presented at the SHPA Critical Care Seminars during this time. In 2015 he presented at the ANZIC conference in New Zealand on medication dosing in tricky ICU patients, covering people with both low and high BMI. He is a current member of the Australian Medical Assistance Team (AusMAT) and was deployed to Vanuatu in 2015 post cyclone Pam.
