Fred J Boyd Award

Established in 1978 in memory of SHPA's Founding President, the Fred J Boyd Award is AdPha's most prestigious award, recognising a member who has made a significant contribution to pharmacy in Australia through outstanding achievement impacting public health and patient care.

The Australian Clinical Pharmacy Award

Medal of Merit

The Medal of Merit is awarded to an AdPha member in recognition of outstanding recent contributions and exemplary effort in pharmacy practice. It was first awarded in 1962 as the Evans Medal of Merit to AdPha's founding president Fred J Boyd.

Early Career Pharmacist Award

Anna Vout

Intern Pharmacist, The Royal Melbourne Hospital

Anna has demonstrated perseverance, compassion, and strong leadership in her role, guiding colleagues and supporting junior staff. She played a key role in implementing the Collaborative Ordering of Medicines for Expedited Transfer-of-care (COMET) project and supporting Clinical Advanced Pharmacy Technicians (CAPTs) in their clinical duties.

She has also led improvements to discharge and transfer-of-care processes between the hospital, Residential Aged Care Facilities, and other health services—ensuring smoother patient flow and better continuity of care.

 Intern Award 

Kirsten Burns

Intern Pharmacist, SA Pharmacy, Yorke and Northern Local Health Network

Kirsten received the Intern Award for her outstanding contributions to rural pharmacy practice, culturally safe care, and patient-centred service delivery at Port Pirie Regional Health Service. Her work spans clinical excellence, research, and advocacy, with a strong focus on health equity and collaboration with Aboriginal health services. Kirsten led initiatives in opioid stewardship, supported multidisciplinary rehabilitation programs, and contributed to national and international research on pharmacist prescribing. Her commitment to mentorship, professional education, and system improvement reflects a deep dedication to advancing pharmacy practice in regional communities.

 PL Jeffs Early Career Pharmacist Award 

Anisha Ravindran

Senior Pharmacist, SA Pharmacy, Southern Adelaide Local Health Network

Anisha was recognised for her exceptional leadership, clinical excellence and commitment to professional development across metropolitan and regional South Australia. With experience at eight SA Pharmacy sites, Anisha has delivered high-quality care across diverse specialties, led multidisciplinary teams and contributed to service improvement initiatives. Her active involvement in AdPha, mentorship of early-career pharmacists and research into patient engagement reflect a deep dedication to advancing hospital pharmacy practice. Anisha’s collaborative and adaptable approach continues to shape safer, more equitable healthcare delivery statewide.

Michelle Edmonds

Senior Pharmacist Policy & Strategy, NT Health

Michelle was awarded for her outstanding leadership in medicines management and health equity. As the lead of a pioneering multi-site research project (the first of its kind in the Northern Territory), Michelle investigated barriers to medicine access, particularly for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities. Her work has informed local and national policy, supported strategic reforms and contributed to national conversations on supply chain resilience. Through mentorship, advocacy, and cross-sector collaboration, Michelle continues to shape pharmacy practice and public health strategy across the NT and beyond.

 Hospital Team Innovation Award

NT Vaccination Distribution Pharmacy Team

NT Health. Team Leader: Bhavini Patel

The NT Vaccination Distribution Pharmacy Team were acknowledged for their leadership in transforming vaccine logistics across the Northern Territory. Operating across a vast and remote region, the team developed and implemented a series of innovations; including cold chain improvements, population-based ordering systems. They also introduced pharmacy technician vaccine coordinators, that have enhanced efficiency, reduced environmental impact and ensured reliable access to essential vaccines. Their work has strengthened public health outcomes and created a sustainable, pharmacy-led model for immunisation distribution in one of Australia’s most geographically challenging jurisdictions.

Grainne Hughes

Senior ICU Pharmacist, The Canberra Hospital

Grainne Hughes has been recognised for her sustained excellence in critical care pharmacy, leading the development of ICU services at Canberra Hospital, including the transition to a new 48-bed adult ICU and the Territory’s first paediatric ICU pharmacy service. She has driven initiatives to enhance medication safety, integrated best practice standards into digital health systems, and mentored junior and rotational pharmacists, strengthening workforce capability. Grainne is also an active contributor to national critical care pharmacy education and research, sharing insights to improve practice across Australia.

 Early Career Pharmacist Award

Benjamin Coghlan

Emergency Medicine Registrar Training Program Pharmacist, Canberra Hospital

Benjamin was awarded for his pioneering contributions to emergency medicine pharmacy at Canberra Hospital. As the ACT’s first ED registrar trainee pharmacist, Ben has led service expansion, developed critical training programs and played a key role in the transition to the new ED facility. His leadership in initiatives such as the intranasal naloxone program and pharmacist-led resuscitation training has enhanced patient safety and pharmacist capability. A dedicated educator and researcher, Ben’s work exemplifies excellence across clinical care, education, and multidisciplinary collaboration.

Diana Samson 

Intern Pharmacist, Gold Coast University Hospital

Diana has been recognised for her outstanding leadership, communication and collaboration throughout her internship. From organising key student engagement events as AdPha Intern QLD Committee Member to representing intern perspectives on the University of Queensland Advisory Board, Diana has inspired the next generation of pharmacists and strengthened the link between education and practice.

 Early Career Pharmacist Award

Georgia Clark

Critical Care Pharmacist, Advanced Residency, Princess Alexandra Hospital

Georgia has been awarded for her leadership in education, research and mentorship. From revising ICU antibiotic guidelines as an Advanced Training Resident to mentoring both residents and technicians, and commencing a PhD in critical care, Georgia’s contributions have shaped clinical practice, advanced pharmacy education, and informed national guidelines.

Casey Hale

Inventory Specialist Lead | Acting Head of Institutional Healthcare Client Support Services, EBOS Group Limited

Casey has been acknowledged for his leadership and innovation in pharmacy operations, from driving national inventory management improvements at HPS Pharmacies to advancing client-focused service delivery as Acting Head of Institutional Healthcare Client Support Services at EBOS Group. His contributions have enhanced efficiency, patient safety, and technician representation at both state and national levels.

William Harris Achievement Award

Sven Marxen

Acting Director of Pharmacy at Logan Hospital

Sven has been recognised for his outstanding leadership and innovation in pharmacy and health informatics. From advancing automation and digital transformation across Queensland Health to strengthening clinical pharmacy services, medication safety and workforce development, Sven’s contributions have shaped safer systems, better patient outcomes, and the future of pharmacy practice.

 Hospital Team Innovation Award

AMS/ID Pharmacist Team, Sunshine Coast HHS

The Sunshine Coast HHS AMS/ID Pharmacist Team has been honoured for their innovative hybrid service model that expanded from antimicrobial stewardship into specialist infectious diseases pharmacist services. By introducing a pharmacist-led therapeutic drug monitoring program, outpatient clinics, and dedicated inpatient support, the team has enhanced precision dosing, improved safety, and strengthened patient care. Their model, which is both sustainable and cost-neutral, has received strong feedback from clinicians and patients alike while setting a new benchmark for integrated AMS and ID pharmacy practice.

  Intern Award

Thaddeus Chai

Intern Pharmacist, The Royal Melbourne Hospital

Thaddeus has shown outstanding commitment to education, leadership, and research throughout his internship year. He has promoted AdPha programs to students, supported Pharmacy Forecast projects, and contributed as a mentor, Monash Ambassador, and committee member on the Monash Postgraduate Advisory Group.

His research contributions include projects presented at Medicines Management 2024 and Health Network Research Week, as well as current work on delirium management in aged care. Looking ahead, he plans to pursue the AdPha Resident Training Program and obtain Clinical Educator credentials to support the next generation of pharmacists.

Thaddeus’ humility, service, and dedication to advancing pharmacy practice make him a deserving recipient of the Victorian Branch Intern Award.
 

  William Mercer Young Achiever Award

Phuong Uyen Hua

Lead Pharmacist - Digital Health and Innovation, Northern Health

Uyen has led significant digital health initiatives to improve medication safety and efficiency, including optimising electronic medical record systems, implementing an electronic controlled drug register, and developing tools to reduce discharge errors. Previously, at Alfred Health, she integrated more than 350 chemotherapy protocols into the EMR, establishing safer and more efficient cancer care workflows.

She has also expanded Partnered Pharmacist Medication Charting (PPMC) models, co-authored over 10 peer-reviewed publications, and presented nationally on medication safety and digital health. Recognised as a Fellow of the Australian and New Zealand College of Advanced Pharmacy (FANZCAP) in Pharmacy Informatics, Uyen exemplifies innovation and leadership in pharmacy’s digital future.
 

  Technician Award

Mardi Simmons

Senior Clinical Technician - Ambulatory Care, Grampians Health

Mardi has shown exceptional leadership and innovation in advancing technician practice. She played a pivotal role in establishing the first pharmacy-run Rapid Access Atrial Fibrillation Clinic, coordinating patient care and contributing to research that was presented at Medicines Management 2024, where she won Best Technician Poster. She is also the first technician at Grampians Health to co-author a peer-reviewed journal article.

Her contributions extend to new paediatric pharmacist follow-up services, technician and pharmacist training, and stepping in to support essential pharmacy operations during staffing shortages. Mardi’s dedication to patient-centred care, education, and service improvement makes her a deserving recipient of this award.
 

  Team Innovation Award

Northern Health Stewardship Programs

Northern Health

The 2025 Team Innovation Award has been awarded to Northern Health’s Stewardship Programs, a system-wide pharmacist-led initiative integrating antimicrobial, anticoagulation, analgesic, and transitions of care stewardship.

This innovative program has achieved significant milestones, including recognition as Australia’s first Anticoagulation Centre of Excellence, safe rollout of new decision support tools for antimicrobial stewardship, embedding pharmacists in persistent pain services, and launching a pharmacist-led Transitions of Care program to support high-risk patients post-discharge.

Through strong governance, data-driven strategies, and collaboration, the Stewardship Programs have delivered measurable improvements in the safe and effective use of medicines, setting a benchmark for sustainable, high-quality patient care.

AdPha Resident of the Year Award

This award celebrates the achievements of AdPha members undertaking the AdPha Resident Training Program, Australia’s first structured, formalised, supported and accredited national pharmacy residency program. The award specifically focuses on improvement and professional development of a Resident candidate as they have progressed through the term of their AdPha Resident Training Program.

AdPha KC Leong Memorial Registrar of the Year Award

The AdPha KC Leong Memorial Registrar of the Year Award, announced for the first time in 2024 as the AdPha Registrar of the Year Award and renamed in 2025 to honour KC Leong, aims to recognise and reward excellence and dedication to advanced pharmacy practice in a pharmacist who has recently completed the AdPha Registrar Training Program
