Bayside Health – Peninsula Care Group is a major public teaching health service that partners with leading Victorian universities to train medical, nursing, and allied health professionals. We provide comprehensive care across the Frankston and Mornington Peninsula region through our acute hospitals - Peninsula University Hospital (previously known as Frankston Hospital) and Rosebud Hospital - as well as extensive community health, mental health, rehabilitation, aged care, and ambulatory services.
Our acute sites offer a broad range of specialties, including emergency medicine, intensive care, surgery, general medicine, obstetrics and gynaecology, oncology, haematology, geriatrics, psychiatry, renal dialysis, gastroenterology, cardiology, neurology, infectious diseases, and more. Located only about 45 minutes from suburbs such as Camberwell, Doncaster, and Ringwood, Peninsula University Hospital is easily accessible and the commute typically runs against peak‑hour traffic.
Pharmacy Department
In addition to general dispensing and clinical ward pharmacy services, the Pharmacy Department at Peninsula Care Group provides the following services: Clinical Drug Trials, Sterile Preparations, Oncology services, Therapeutic Drug Monitoring, Drug Utilisation Review, Antimicrobial Stewardship, Hospital in the Home, At Home program, Quality Use of Medicines and Medication Safety, Weekend Services and in-service education for Medical and Nursing Staff.
Senior education pharmacists support and oversee the Intern Training Program (ITP) and Intern Foundation Program (IFP). Upon completion of internship, pharmacists may apply for the Advanced Pharmacy Australia accredited 24‑month Pharmacy Foundation Residency Program.

Job description: Pharmacy internship - Full-time (12 months contract)
Salary Victorian Public Health Sector (Medical Scientists, Pharmacists and Psychologists) Enterprise Agreement, plus superannuation contributions.
There are FOUR government funded intern positions available at Peninsula Care Group in 2027.
About the Pharmacy Intern Training Program
Internship begins with a five‑week orientation and training program designed to provide essential clinical knowledge and IT skills to support practice throughout the year. Following this, interns undertake three‑weekly rotations across core medical and surgical areas at Peninsula University Hospital, before progressing into a broad range of specialty clinical rotations. Overall, approximately 80% of the internship is clinically focused.
Core experience (10 weeks each):
- General Medicine
- General Surgery
- Operations/dispensary
Breadth rotations (3 weeks each):
- Respiratory
- Cardiology
- Psychiatry
- Neurology
- Emergency Department
- Sub-acute Care
Shorter additional experiences include:
- Infectious diseases/ antimicrobial stewardship
- Intensive care unit
- Theatres and perioperative care
- Community care
- Quality use of medicine (medication safety and audits)
- Anticoagulant stewardship
The final 12-weeks include work-ready experience with increasing responsibility and autonomy in surgery, medicine and dispensary.
Sites at which interns will work
Pharmacy interns work mainly at Peninsula University Hospital with a rotation under Quality Use of Medicine program and at our other campuses (The Mornington Centre, Gold Links Road and Rosebud Hospital for one week each). Interns are encouraged to be involved in patient care, pharmacy interventions and to liaise with medical, nursing staff and external pharmacies and nursing homes.
Dispensary rotations provide interns the opportunity to develop skills in outpatient counselling, dispensing and responding to drug information enquiries. In addition, interns further develop their skills in extemporaneous manufacturing for both inpatients and outpatients. Across all experiences, interns will utilise Peninsula Care Group’s Electronic Medical Record (EMR) system - Cerner®. Research project development, ethics application and support is provided by research supervisors.
Selection Criteria
Our preferred candidates are tertiary pharmacy students in Victoria who are looking for a career in hospital. All applicants are obliged to complete the immunisation requirements for healthcare workers, current Police Check and Working with Children Check. Applicants must be Australian Citizens or hold a permanent residency in Australia to qualify for government funded positions.
