Electronic prescribing allows prescribers and their patients to use electronic prescriptions as an alternative to paper prescriptions. In 2022 the Royal Perth Hospital was the first public hospital in Australia to implement electronic prescriptions in outpatient departments, enabling patients to have these dispensed at community pharmacies. This implementation was a joint project between the Australian Digital Health Agency, Royal Perth Hospital and WA Health Support Services, to support hospital outpatients and make patient lives a little easier upon leaving hospital.
