Pharmacy students tune in as savings for essential resource announced
Beamed into screens around the country, the third annual SHPA-NAPSA Student Symposium concludes today with a difference after moving to an all-virtual event for 2020, as a new discount for students seeking to hone their smart search skills was also announced.
A joint venture of the Society of Hospital Pharmacists of Australia (SHPA) and the National Australian Pharmacy Students’ Association (NAPSA), the 2020 Student Symposium featured a lead-in week of self- paced learning, with interactive webinar presentations rounding out the annual focus on individual professional development and the future shape of Australia’s pharmacy workforce.
Upon opening the live component to a record number of delegates, SHPA Chief Executive Kristin Michaels noted the growing potential of virtual events.
‘As the coming together of two national organisations serving the next generation of leading pharmacists, the SHPA-NAPSA Student Symposium is a truly Australia-wide event and we are pleased to reach a new level of intimacy and inclusion this year amid challenging circumstances.
‘Powerfully positive feedback to our online resources and another increase in attendees shows our focus on truly understanding hospital pharmacy and landing that key first hospital job continues to resonate with students across the country.’
Coinciding with the Student Symposium, Ms Michaels also announced that from this week, all SHPA Student Members are eligible for a 50% discount to access EMIT (Electronic Medicines Information Training) modules, the latest addition to SHPA’s Online CPD.
‘Sourcing and providing timely, accurate and relevant medicines information is an essential aspect of pharmacy practice.
‘Comprehensively reviewed and updated by expert Medicines Information Pharmacists, EMIT’s 22 modules are particularly suited to pre-registration and early career pharmacists who want to get ahead through up-to- date, curated education on seeking and providing trustworthy medicines information.
