Geriatric Therapeutics Review reflects key messages of MedsAware: Deprescribing Action Week
The Geriatric Therapeutics Review has been crucial to progress in medicines safety in aged care in Australia for almost 40 years.
First published by the Heidelberg Repatriation Hospital in Melbourne in 1986 when geriatric medicine was in its infancy in Australia, and then in SHPA’s JPPR since 1991, the section features contemporary reviews of the management of medical problems in older people, with an emphasis on rational and safe drug therapy.
This is essential to the message of MedsAware: Deprescribing Action Week, and we’re proud to share some key papers from the history of the GTR in MedsAware Week:
An exploration and celebration of the legacy of the Geriatric Therapeutics Review will be published alongside its final issue in the December 2023 JPPR.
We look forward to recognising the leaders of this landmark initiative and honouring their success in ensuring the specific risks of medicines use among older Australians are more understood within and outside pharmacy practice.
