AdPha welcomes new health ministry for Western Australia
Advanced Pharmacy Australia (AdPha) welcomes the appointment of Hon Meredith Hammat MLA as Western Australia’s new Health Minister and looks forward to continuing its strong partnership with the WA Government toward the statewide rollout of Partnered Pharmacist Medication Prescribing (PPMP).
AdPha President Tom Simpson looks forward to working with Minister Hammat and Housing Minister John Carey, who oversees the Health Infrastructure portfolio, to enhance WA’s hospital pharmacy workforce, improving patient safety and care outcomes in the West.
‘On behalf of AdPha WA members, we welcome Minister Hammat’s appointment and the government’s focus on strengthening WA’s health system. We also acknowledge and welcome the introduction of new portfolios in Preventive Health, Health Infrastructure, and Aged Care and Seniors.
‘With a growing population and ongoing workforce shortages, investing in pharmacy is crucial to ensuring sustainable, high-quality healthcare for all Western Australians.
Mr Simpson says AdPha supports the government’s commitment to PPMP as part of the upcoming industrial agreement for WA public sector pharmacists.
‘We are pleased to see PPMP recognised in the new agreement and look forward to collaborating with Minister Hammat and the broader health ministry to expand pharmacists’ scope of practice, shown in other states to ease pressure on hospital beds and reduce medication errors and hospital length of stay.
‘We remain committed to working alongside the WA Government to ensure better health outcomes for Western Australians -- a well-supported and highly skilled hospital pharmacy workforce is how we make this happen.’
